IMPROVE AND DEVELOP THE
SERVICES NECESSARY FOR VESSELS
CALLS, HANDLING GOODS AND
THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PUBLIC
DOMAIN REPRESENTINF THE MAIN
PORT ACTIVITIES.
MAIN ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC
Vessel Calls
This is the primary mission of the port, the GPM-Guyane, through its Harbour Master, manages
the organisation of the stopover of vessels and the policing of the port. Everything is done to
ensure that the vessels dock and leave in the best possible safety, security and commercial
conditions (preparation of docking, attribution of quay positions, surveillance, operations…).
Goods handling
The GPM-Guyane places at the disposal of the shipping agents, handlers/dockers, freight
forwarders and road hauliers, infrastructures and equipment (container quays, container
terminal, ferry parking, oil and ore quays…) and services (water, electricity, cleaning, digital
data exchange) to manage their logistics, goods handling and transport operations. Goods
types are either containerised, conventional or liquid bulk (hydrocarbons, methanol) and solids
(clinker) and rolling freight (vehicles, machinery). Everything must be done to ensure that the
goods remain the shortest possible time in the port. Port cranes will soon equip the quays.
Management of the public domain
The GPM-Guyane manages the authorisations for the temporary occupation of the container
terminal and its land within the administrative land limits. Its goal is to create a new serviced
land offering to host companies that are directly or indirectly linked to the port activity.
Dredging and towing
These subcontracted activities allow the GPM-Guyane to secure the maritime access in
the channels of the River Mahury (Dégrad-des-Cannes) and River Kourou (Pariacabo), by
maintaining their admissible draughts and also through on-demand rescue operations for
vessels.
Marine and docking piloting
This commercial service is operated by French Guiana’s union of marine and docking pilots.
Its mission is to provide pilots to assist vessel captains to safely enter and exit the channels
and dock.
